Growing up with the gifts and difficulties associated with a Non-Verbal Learning Disability has made me very good at speaking and explaining things as the gift of verbal expression has always tended to come naturally to me, even while I have had more difficulty socially, emotionally and with visual spatial reasoning. I began my life with a lot of joy that only through the difficulties of childhood, adolescence and young adulthood began to get jaded. Somehow though, still the gift of words that God gave me even during my late adolescent/early adulthood years I was trying to be an atheist could help to make a positive impact on the people around me was there, even if it lay dormant a lot of time fueled by my angst, negativity and depression that characterized my life sadly at times in a lot of these formative years.
I see now that since the hope and love of Christ continue to spring up in my soul since my adult conversion, and as I continue to strive to correspond with God’s grace as I move through my adult life, that God is giving me every day new opportunities to be a witness for His love and grace in my life. While I do need to be vigilant as the enemy (fallen rebellious angels who twist the word of God for evil) still works hard to sow seeds of depression and despair in my life, the song “Speak Life” has encouraged me to consider how God has given me the ability to speak life with the gift of the words that I speak. By choosing to “Speak Life” I engage in the spiritual battle by not giving in to negative and harmful speech, but rather speaking the encouraging and life giving yet challenging word of God into my own life and the life of my neighbor.
Please watch this music video by Toby Mac, Speak Life and consider how God is also calling you to “Speak Life” to others, and to yourself the hope that God has for each of us in Christ!
